Irish aircraft leasing company AerCap has signed an agreement to lease six freight-carrying aircraft to low-cost Brazilian airline GOL, the company announced on Monday.
AerCap will deliver three converted 737-800 Boeing freighters to the carrier this year with the remaining three scheduled for delivery in 2023.
The six passenger-to-freighter aircraft, will be operated by GOL for a Latin American ecommerce company based in Brazil, flying to destinations across South America, AerCap said in a statement.
Peter Anderson, AerCap’s chief commercial officer, said the aircraft will be a “versatile addition” to GOL’s fleet, allowing it to respond to the increased demand from ecommerce retail businesses in South America.
“We are delighted to expand our relationship with GOL and wish them every success with these aircraft in the years to come,” Mr Anderson said.
Last week, the leasing operation announced that it had completed 184 deals in the three months to the end of June alone. AerCap said it had leased 125 aircraft and engines during the period, including 56 jets, 37 helicopters and 32 engines.
The New York-listed operation – the world’s biggest aircraft lessor – buys planes, helicopters and engines by combining its own cash with debt, then leases them to about 300 customers globally.
