Moneycorp Europe chief executive Bryan McSharry dies, aged 55

Bryan McSharry, chief executive of Moneycorp Europe, died suddenly last week, aged 55.

Mr McSharry, son of former Fianna Fáil tánaiste and European Commissioner Ray MacSharry and brother of independent, formerly Fianna Fáil TD for Sligo-Leitrim Marc MacSharry, died at his home in Sandymount in Dublin on August 25th.

The businessman, who began his career at Investec before taking up roles as head of treasury sales at Anglo Irish Bank and its successor, Irish Banking Resolution Corporation, helped to bring foreign exchange services company Moneycorp to Ireland in 2013 along with his former Anglo colleague Tiarnan O’Mahoney.

Mr O’Mahoney resigned from the company in 2014.

Serving corporate and individual customers from its Dublin 2 office, the London-headquartered company secured an e-money licence from the Central Bank in 2020 to support its post-Brexit European Union expansion.

Mr McSharry is survived by his wife Adriana and their four children.

Mr McSharry’s funeral will be take place at 11am on Thursday at Church of the Sacred Heart in Donnybrook.
