Advertising revenue is heading towards a record £300 million this year

Advertising revenue is heading towards a record £300 million this year. In the first seven months of 1997, advertising revenue has reached £177 million with the top 30 advertisers spending £40 million. The top spender was Guinness at £2.6 million, closely followed by Gunne Estate Agents at £2.5 million and Procter & Gamble at £2.4 million.

The print media commanded 54 per cent of advertising, followed by television at 29 per cent and radio at 9 per cent. Outdoor advertising only accounted for 8 per cent of all expenditure in July 1997.
