Production in electrical engineering rose by 50 per cent in April compared to the same month in 1997, according to the latest figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO). Overall, industrial production rose by 16.5 per cent during the month, the CSO stated, but the clothing sector showed a decrease of 18 per cent.

Pharmaceuticals and electrical engineering accounted for nearly half of the 12-month overall increase.
