The British Royal Navy has signed a contract with Internet security specialist Baltimore to use its technology to protect information within its local area networks (LANs).
The initial contract, valued at £500,000 sterling (€760,919), will be implemented across Ministry of Defence sites in the UK.
Baltimore's data encryptors will be applied to existing defence network structures, saving the cost of implementing separate networks to carry secure data stream traffic.
They will allow many applications to run securely over the same network.
Baltimore's technology is the only approved Internet Protocol encryptor approved for use by UK government departments.
