Hotels: The Irish-American businessman and philanthropist Mr Chuck Feeney is to sell his four-star hotel, The Castletroy Park Hotel, in Limerick.

DTZ Sherry FitzGerald is quoting a guide price of over €17 million for the 107-bedroom hotel which stands on 6.1 hectares (15.2 acres) along the main Limerick-Dublin road beside the University of Limerick. It goes to tender on May 27th.

The hotel was built by Mr Feeney in 1991 and was refurbished to a high standard less than three years ago. Apart from the 107 bedrooms, suites and executive rooms, the hotel has a full complement of dining, bar and lounge facilities extending to over 929 sq m (10,000 sq ft).

There is a further 1,114 sq m (12,000 sq ft) dedicated to conference, meeting and banqueting facilities to accommodate up to 450 guests. The hotel also includes a leisure centre with a 20-metre swimming pool and gym.

Because of the size of the grounds, the agents plan to sell the property in either one or several lots.

The Limerick hotel is the last Irish property owned by Mr Feeney. In recent years he sold the remainder of his portfolio including the Kiltiernan Golf and Country Club and Heritage House, a modern office development with a Georgian entrance on St Stephen's Green.

Mr Feeney (72) is now heavily involved in Atlantic Philanthropes, a worldwide grant giving organisation with assets of $3.5 billion. The organisation is a generous contributor to several programmes in Ireland including ageing, disadvantaged children and youth, reconciliation and human rights.
