UCD announces speakers for TEDx event

Dr Cara Augustenborg will discuss fossil-free Ireland

Dr Cara Augustenborg: will share “ideas and thoughts on the solution to the global climate change crisis”

TEDx is back in Dublin this week, with a sold-out event in UCD this Friday. It is the university’s third annual TEDxUCD event.

Dr Cara Augustenborg, an environmental scientist who lectures on climate change and the environment at UCD, will discuss fossil-free Ireland.

Talking about the event, Dr Augustenborg said she would share “ideas and thoughts on the solution to the global climate change crisis with respect to both the significance of the upcoming UN climate negotiations in Paris and our day-to-day lives here in Ireland.”

Serial entrepreneur Duncan Lennox will discuss the misunderstood brain and the science of knowledge retention. Mr Lennox is the chief executive and co-founder of Qstream, a spin-out from Harvard Medical School with offices in Boston and Dublin.

He was a co-founder of WBT Systems, a UCD spin-out company acquired by Horizon Technology Group in 2006.

Microsoft director of worldwide education strategy Steven Duggan, human rights lawyer Maeve O'Rourke and sustainability scientist Dr Marcus Collier are also among the speakers.

The speakers will talk about a wide range of ideas worth spreading, including novel ecosystems and the search for a cure to HIV.
