Alcatel Ireland has been appointed by Esat Telecom to assist implementing its broadband LAN interconnect business service offering.

The contract is valued at £1 million annually and will be maintained by Alcatel's Stillorgan-based data division. Under the agreement, Alcatel Ireland will provide equipment at the central Esat location and the customer premises. It will be based on Alcatel's Avanza LSS 1100 range of switches, with each customer location connected to a central ATM switch. Alcatel's Avanza product allows organisations to switch to emerging technologies like ATM and Gigabit Ethernet without having to invest in new equipment.
