‘Guaranteed Irish’ logo for financial services: a guaranteed laugh

Potential PR problems ahead for banks that have another, more expensive guarantee

Anybody who used a school copybook in the 1980s or 1990s will know the Guaranteed Irish logo that used to wave at you reassuringly from the back cover. So the news this week that Guaranteed Irish is pushing into financial services was good for a chuckle. Haven’t financial firms got enough guarantees already?

Noone Casey accountants, a Dublin firm, has become the first financial services company to be proudly Guaranteed Irish. The mark’s administrators want even more such companies to sign up.

I sense some potential communications difficulties if anybody were to slap a Guaranteed Irish logo on any of the big beasts of the financial services sector, such as the banks. You know . . . the ones whose State guarantee in 2008 indentured the rest of us for life.

Guaranteed Irish, indeed.
