A special meeting of Group of Seven finance ministers and central bank governors is "in preparation", a German government spokesman said yesterday, while a US official said the leaders of the G7 countries were drafting a joint statement on reform of global financial structures.

The US official said the statement would be released today and would address the architecture of the global financial system.
