The Consumers' Association of Ireland has backed the campaign by Standard Life to remain mutual and has urged Irish policyholders to vote against the proposal to demutualise the life assurance group. Mr Eddie Hobbs, CAI director and finance spokesman, said competitive mutuals provided a critical balance in the marketplace which would otherwise be dominated by public companies.
