THE hotel group owned by rock band U2, Brushfield, had accumulated losses of £4.17 million (#5.29 million) in 1996 according to the latest accounts lodged with the Companies Office. Accumulated losses in 1995 were lower at £2.9 million The four members of U2 - Mr Paul Hewson (Bono), Mr Dave Evans (the Edge), Mr Adam Clayton and Mr Larry Mullen - own 75 per cent of the company through their parent company, Not Us. The other shareholder is the owner of the Point Depot, Mr Harry Crosbie. The company owns the Clarence Hotel in Dublin.

The auditor - O.J. Kilkenny and Co - states that the balance sheet has been prepared on an "ongoing concern basis". The validity of the figures "depends upon continuing support being available from the parent undertaking and other investors", the auditor adds.
