Judgments in favour of Punchestown

A COURT has awarded Punchestown Racecourse judgments totalling €26,000 against Mecom Media, a company connected with publishing and event management group Mediateam.

The Dublin Circuit Court recently made two judgments worth a total of €26,100 against Mecom Media, of South Dublin Business Park, Leopardstown, in favour of Punchestown Enterprises Company and Blackhall Racing Company, both of Naas, Co Kildare.

The racecourse confirmed it sought the judgments following a number of attempts to resolve the issue with Mecom Media. The debts involved date back over 12 months. Both judgments were entered in default of defence.

The money was due on foot of commercial agreements relating to race sponsorship, and to an airshow, scheduled to be held at the venue last year, which Mecom Media was established to promote.

Mecom Media shares its address with Mediateam and John McDonald is a director of both companies. He stressed yesterday that the two companies are separate entities.

Mediateam was to provide facilities and services to the airshow, which was cancelled following the withdrawal of one of the acts.

Mecom said yesterday it was not aware of any court date and had been told its solicitor had entered a defence to the claims.

“As of close of business Friday, Mecom Media had not been informed of any judgment against it and the company will be seeking to have the matter clarified and the judgment set aside,” the company added.

Mediateam promotes a number of events, including the high-profile “Toys 4 Big Boys” exhibition, which is focused on cars, gadgets and lifestyle products for men.

Its publishing business produces magazines such as Irish Computer, retail trade publication Shelflifeand the Irish Garden.
