Students in Northern Ireland swapped their pens and paper for keyboards last week in a pilot project that enabled pupils to sit their mock GCSE exams on computers.

The project, run by the Council for Curriculum Examinations and Assessment, enabled 300 pupils to use computers to complete their tests in biology, chemistry and physics.

It is hoped the trial will lead to paperless exams in the future.
