Accumulated profits at the public relations firm, Murray Consultants, have doubled to more than €1 million, according to accounts lodged with the Companies Office.

A balance sheet for 2003 shows the company's profits at €1,000,924, up from €425,545. This gave the company a profit for the year of €575,379. Net current assets rose from €395,771 to €994,699, while total assets, less liabilities, were up from €1.6 million to €2 million.

The firm, which has been involved in the public relations sector since 1974, is owned by Mr James Milton, Mr Joe Murray and various members of staff.

Three years ago the company was re-organised and its business was transferred into a new company with a new board of executive directors. Each of the directors heads a business unit within the firm, the company said yesterday

The directors are Mr Pat Walsh, deputy managing director, Ms Pauline McAlester and Ms Blaithin Boylan. Murray's operates a staff share scheme which gives senior staff an interest in the company.

It was reported in August 2002 that the company was the subject of takeover interest from international PR company Incepta, but no deal ultimately emerged.

The company has a large client base, including contracts with Ryanair, Independent News & Media, Heineken Ireland, Grafton, John Magnier's Coolmore Stud, Gamma Construction, Bord Gáis and Tullow Oil. It recently won the contract to represent Fáilte Ireland.

The British industry magazine, PR Week, recently put the company's role in the £273 million (€393 million)Tullow acquisition of Energy Africa in its top 10 deals in Britain and Ireland.

Murray's sponsorship and sports unit has just been appointed as authorised sellers of Ryder Cup hospitality packages for the 36th Ryder Cup at the K Club in 2006.
