The announcement of 100 extra jobs for Galway by an international online homeware retailer is expected to be made this week.

The jobs will be with Wayfair, a Nasdaq-listed online homewares retailer which opened a European Operations Centre in Mervue Business Park in 2009 with an initial staff of 11.

The roles are likely to include e-commerce and customer service positions and posts that require European language skills. An announcement is expected on Tuesday.

Wayfair was founded in Boston in 2002 as CSN Stores and employs about 4,000 people worldwide.

It already has other European operations in London and Berlin.

The company effectively acts as a middleman for about 7,000 suppliers, which collectively sell more than €7 million worth of products, as well as its own furniture brands.

A number of other international and Irish firms in this field have recently located in Galway rather than in Dublin.
