The popularity of smartphones has driven an increase in O2’s customer base, with the number using these devices jumping 43 per cent during the year to the end of September.

O2, operated by Telefónica Ireland, reported a corresponding increase in data traffic volumes on its network, as its customers use more of its data services and products. Non-SMS data revenue rose by 21 per cent during the 12-month period, while data traffic on the network increased 42 per cent.
