US discount and Internet brokerage Charles Schwab said yesterday that its customers put in far fewer stock trades in May, a sign investors cooled off due to the slumping stock market.

Schwab, which has more than seven million brokerage accounts, said it processed 198,400 stock trades a day in May, down 37 per cent from 317,300 a day in April.
