Harland and Wolff has appointed Mr Brynjulv Mugaas as chief executive with day-today responsibility for the company and its separate subsidiaries for shipbuilding, ship repair, technical services, protective coatings and outfit services.

Mr Mugaas (54) joined in April as managing director of Harland and Wolff Shipbuilding and Heavy Industries. He was previously the corporate vice president of the Norwegian Ulstein Group, where he was also managing director of Ulstein Verft AS.

Mr Per Nielson continues as company president until his retirement in June 2000.
