Shares in Gateway extended sharp losses into after-hours trading in New York last night, dragging other personal computer maker stocks down as well, after the company confirmed fears that slow holiday sales would push its fourth-quarter results significantly below estimates.

Gateway closed down $1.50 at $29.50 on the New York Stock Exchange after an analyst revised estimates downward; then the shares shot lower still after trading ended.
