Stocks tumbled yesterday as investor sentiment was hurt by Middle East violence and dim earnings outlooks from several tech giants. Adding to concerns, US authorities said FBI field offices were alerted to possible future attacks during US Independence Day celebrations on July 4th.

Dow Jones Industrial Average: 9,561.57 (-144.55)

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 144.55 points, or 1.49 per cent, to 9,561.57, according to the latest data, while the Nasdaq composite dropped 46.12 points, or 2.99 per cent, to 1,496.84, the lowest close since early last October. The benchmark Standard & Poor's 500 fell 17.15 points, or 1.65 per cent. to 1,019.99.

Chip-maker AMD Inc. joined the chorus of gloom by saying its results would miss estimates. Shares fell $1.60 to $8.70, a 15.5 per cent drop.
