Ireland puts web to work

Ireland ranks in the top 10 countries in the world at putting the web to work, a new survey has found.

According to the Web Index, Sweden ranked top of the list ahead of the US and Britain, with Ireland coming in just behind Norway, Australia and New Zealand.

Despite its 10th place, Ireland ranked sixth for overall impact and also did better than every other country in terms of how the web has affected the economy, with service exports from ICT accounting for 14.8 per cent of gross domestic product between 2007 and 2010.
