THREE STUDENTS at NUI Maynooth have won the Irish leg of the Microsoft Imagine Cup Finals 2012, the company’s global student technology competition.

Cosmin Siclovan, Donal O’Sullivan and Marie Farrell from the university were crowned winners after they developed a cloud-based application for use in medical treatment.

Their solution focuses on a doctor-patient synchronisation system entitled docTek Systems, which features a personalised symptomatic journal and reminders for the patient and client management features for the medical professional.

The three students beat more than 600 other students and will now receive mentoring from Microsoft Ireland in the build-up to the global finals in Australia.

Microsoft Ireland managing director Paul Rellis congratulated the winners. “It’s a great concept with real potential and we’re looking forward to working with them in the build-up to the finals.”

The Imagine Cup challenges students to envision how technology can help solve the toughest problems today. The company said it had held the Irish finals during its inaugural National Cloud Week to demonstrate some of the cloud-based innovations students are developing.
