Publisher sues Apple for use of 'iBook' term

Apple is being sued by New York publisher John T Colby for trademark infringement over its use of the term “iBooks”

Apple is being sued by New York publisher John T Colby for trademark infringement over its use of the term “iBooks”. Colby acquired the assets of various entities owned by New York publisher Byron Preiss, who had published more than 1,000 books under the “ibooks” name since 1999, according to the lawsuit.

Apple has a trademark on the name “iBook” for computers but never used the term for electronic books or an application for the delivery thereof until it began selling iPads last year, Colby said. – (Bloomberg)
