The Silicon Liffey tech map

Mark McLaughlin from Dublin start-up TicketABC has created a shared Google Map of Silicon Liffey. It’s a collaborative map of all the technology and start-up companies in Dublin and surrounding areas. Clever idea which underscores the strength of our technology industry and which has been gathering lots of support this week.

Onavo for savings on mobile data roaming

Mobile networks still like to gouge their customers for using their apps while abroad. Thanks to a Twitter tip from music promoters @freshandnoble, we heard about Onavo, an iPhone app that compresses the data sent to and from your phone which the makers say it can reduce your bill by as much as 80 per cent so it’s worth using at home as well as abroad. It also provides a detailed breakdown of which apps are eating up your data plan.

Cook with celebrity chef Neven Maguire

In these days of smartphones and tablets, cookery books seem so passé, so chef Neven Maguire has teamed up with Georgina Campbell Guides to create his own iPhone app which contains 60 recipes, 11 of which come with full video instructions.

There’s also an interactive shopping list and suggestions of staples you should have in the house which can be added to the list at a click. It retails for €4.99 but when you compare that to the price of a recipe book it’s a steal.
