Netflix has crunched the data and seen a large rise in the number of customers streaming its content on mobile devices using a mobile data plan.

While tempting to continue your binge-watch during the morning commute, it can have a devastating effect on data consumption as not everyone has an unlimited plan. New Netflix settings will help rein in the excess streaming.

Inside App Settings on the updated Netflix app there are now six distinct choices within the mobile data usage settings. Aside from turning mobile data off, it’s now possible to toggle between low, medium, high and auto streaming. Depending on what quality setting you choose, you’ll get between 1 and 4 hours of streaming video per GB.

Those on unlimited plans will get the best quality but this can burn through 1GB in 20 minutes and it doesn’t necessarily guarantee super-high quality; your network speed could be a dampener on this.
