The economy has got another glowing write-up, this time from the influential US investment magazine Barron's. Under the heading: "Will Labour woes snare Ireland's economic leprechaun?", the magazine examines the threat posed by pay demands and overheating, but comes to the generally upbeat conclusion that the outlook remains bright and that "many fund managers need to increase their holdings in Irish stocks". It revels in the usual Oirish metaphors beloved of the overseas hack. The land of "Guinness, Joyce and rolling green hills", has turned into "a high tech mecca of nimble businesses and entrepreneurial spirit," gushes Barron's. Even finance minister Charlie McCreevy joined in the mood. "I think we'll be able to keep the Celtic Tiger purring ahead," he confidently proclaimed to Barron's.
