Dalgety Food Ingredients has operations in eight European countries including Britain, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands and Poland.
It reported operating profits of £29.9 million sterling (£35.2 million) on turnover of £359 million sterling (£422 million) in the financial year ended June 30th, 1997.
The company had net assets of £165 million sterling (£194 million) at that date.
It is made up of two divisions, DFI Ingredients Group and DFI Milling Group.
DFI Ingredients Group in turn is made up of four businesses.
Lucas Ingredients manufactures more than 3,000 products for the food processing industry including a wide range of seasonings, flavours and curing agents. It operates from three manufacturing sites in Britain. These are located in Portbury, Gainsborough and Cam.
The European Seasonings Business produces seasonings, curing agents, functional blends and flavours to meat processing and food service markets throughout Europe. It operates from six manufacturing sites located in France, Italy, Ireland and Hungary. Its Irish operation is based in Dublin and employees about 35 people, supplying a range of customised ingredients and seasonings for the food and meat industry.
The Coatings Group is the leading manufacturer in Europe of food coating and batter systems. It operates from seven manufacturing plants. Three of these are in Britain, at Bicester, Gainsborough and Birstwith, two are in Germany at Kleinheubach and Wittstock and two are located in France in Blendecques and Kerganet.
DFI Nederland is the European market leader in the production of dehydrated meats, vegetables and fruit for application in snacks, soups, breakfast cereals, infant foods and confectionery. It is based in Breda in the Netherlands.
Dalgety Milling Group is made up of three businesses:
Spillers Milling is the third largest flour milling business in Britain and the largest independent miller. Its seven plants are located at Avonmouth, Birkenhead, Cambridge, Gainsborough, Liverpool, Newcastle and Tilbury.
Spillers Premier Products develops, manufactures and markets technical ingredients to bakers and food manufacturers in Britain and overseas. It operates from three manufacturing plants in the Cambridge area.
Spillers Consumer Foods is the leading British producer of pre-packed flour and bakery mixes. Its range of branded products includes Homepride and Greens while it also supplies own label mixes directly to the British retail market. Its two plants are located at Thurcroft and Gainsborough.
