When actors turn their hands to other artistic pursuits, things can go horribly wrong. Luckily, Amy Huberman's entertaining second novel is both poignant and laugh-out-loud funny. It's the story of 29-year-old Grace, who's frustrated by her job as a fashion stylist but seemingly content in her relationship with her boyfriend, Robbie. But when he goes down on one knee during what had previously been a dream holiday in New York, Grace freaks out. As her relationship crumbles, she has to ask herself what she truly wants from life. Luckily, she has a new mentor in the form of glamorous Verity, an older woman who shares Grace's passion for the golden age of Hollywood. Romantic yet down to earth, I Wished for You is proof not just that Huberman can write, but that she can do so with wit, insight and charm.
