THERE are two antiques and collectables fairs in Dublin tomorrow, the first of them starting at 10.30 a.m. in the Davenport Hotel. This includes a number of antiquities from ancient Egypt, such as a burial figure dating back to 600 BC and a pair of 5,000 year old gold earrings.
There are also more recent items of interest, not least of which is an art deco tin guitar with its carrying case, a Victorian oil lamp with milk glass base and tulip shaped, pale blue hand painted shade and a large Victorian weighing scales.
At 11 a.m., another fair opens at Newman House on St Stephen's Green, where among the paintings on offer will be a pair of miniature portraits of General Sir Arthur Richard Dillon, the third Baron Dillon of Lismullen, Co Meath, and his wife, Lady Letitia Elizabeth Dillon. Among other campaigns, General Dillon served with both the Austrian and English armies during the Napoleonic wars.
Georgian and Victorian silver at the same fair includes a set of six George Ill bright cut serving spoons by Richard Whitford of Dublin, dating from 1808, and there will also be a wide range of books on sale.
Meanwhile, in Killarney, the sixth antiques and collectables fair opens tomorrow at 11 a.m. in the Great Southern Hotel, with some 56 dealers on more than 50 stands. The wide assortment of items includes furniture, jewellery, porcelain and china, clocks, pictures and linen, as well as coins and stamps, silver, lace and bric-a-brac.
