LCD SOUNDSYSTEM 45:33 DFA/EMI ****

James Murphy doesn't look like the kind of man to front a sportswear campaign, but the music he makes is another matter. Last year, Nike gave Murphy a large wad of cash to put together a soundtrack for a jogging workout and first made it available as a limited download. The LCD Soundsystem frontman admitted that he's not one of life's joggers, though he did like the opportunity to come up with his own album-length one-track symphony. You'll hear traces of everything from Manuel Gottsching, Brian Eno and Steve Hillage to classic New York disco and rare grooves (a source Murphy returned to on his recent Fabric mix-album). You'll also hear familiar lines in the form of an early draft of Someone Great from this year's excellent Sound of Silver. This release also has a remix of North American Scum, as well as two new tracks, but it's the twinkling melodies and atmospheric, skyscraping pulses of the main track that really do the business here. www.lcdsoundsystem. com
