Donald Clarke for screen debut

A press release arrives concerning a new Irish film called Superhero

A press release arrives concerning a new Irish film called Superhero. “Donald Clarke craves sex and adventure,” the missive explains.

Donald is, apparently, a teenager with a terminal illness who retreats from life into comic-book adventures of his own ingenious devising. Thomas Brodie Sangster plays Donald Clarke and . . . hang on a moment. Is there anything these film-makers won't do to get their films mentioned in Reel News?

Superhero, directed by Ian Fitzgibbon from a novel by Anthony McCarten, began shooting this week and is due for release in late 2011. For the record, Michael Garland, the picture's veteran producer, assures Reel News that the naming of the character was not influenced by any Irish Timespersonnel.
