EA has gone all out for the return of SSX. The latest version takes you around the world, tackling some dangerous mountain ranges with flair, panache and the odd wipeout. The story mode pits Team SSX against rival Griff in a battle to complete all the "deadly descents" on some of the toughest mountain ranges in the world. Some tracks you race, others are for tricks; the deadly descents come with the simple challenge to survive. You can't tackle them without special gear – armour, ice axes – and you're facing obstacles from falling trees to avalanches. What makes SSXgreat is the detail, like the different terrains. When you hit ice, you hear it, and you feel yourself lose control of your rider. One issue may be the lack of a multiplayer mode – SSXrelies on online modes. But overall it's a high-adrenaline return.
