Having been "discovered" in 1993, following the rerelease of a series of old recordings on a CD called Irish Accordion,Boston Irish box player Joe Derrane has relished his second wind like the marathon man that he is. Grove Laneis a finely etched collection of tunes from Derrane, with two standout originals, Tango Derraneand Waltzing With Anne.What's abundantly clear from the tiptoeing metronome rhythms of Derrane's playing to his weakness for jigs, reels and hornpipes, is that his possession of a tune is never less than whole, and his three- dimensional personality is writ subtly into the fabric of each set like a hologram.
