Sam Shackleton (pic) is back in town, and those in the market for deep, wobbly, bassed-out dubstep will want to make a date with the man. One of the producers behind what was the highly influential Skull Disco label, Lancashire-born Shackleton’s productions have seen him take bass and percussive music into new, maverick, hypnotic zones.
Having cut his teeth in teenage punk bands and played electronic music on the squat circuit, Shackleton began to concentrate on dubstep and bass after hooking up with Appleblim and hearing about the FWD>> night in London. Mordant Music stuck out one of Shackleton's early tracks ( Stalker) and the rest is a series of fine productions, remixes (Simian Mobile Disco, Pole etc) and tours.
Shackleton is in the basement tonight with the Salt DJs, while Dublin hip-hop crew The Infomatics, nine- piece reggae-funk band Indica, and ska act Present Arms are also on the bill.
