Breakfast Parlophone***
It was a sample of MGMT's Kidson their Opposite of Adultstune that kicked off the buzz for Philadelphia duo Chiddy Bang. It also provided Chiddy Anamege and Noah Beresin with a neat formula involving on-trend electropop, indie pop samples (they've also made large with Passion Pit and Radiohead) and some hip-hop dash. For their long overdue debut album, Anamege and Beresin rarely stray too far from the tried and tested, with much of Breakfastexuding the same kind of knowing, on-point swagger. When it works, there's nothing shabby about their methods, as such zingy tracks as Whatever We Want, Ray Charlesand Baby Rouletteprove. However, problems occur when they rely too heavily on one way of working, and a lack of strong, distinctive ideas hinders tracks such as Happeningfrom making an impact. On a similar tip, Anamege's rhymes lack the depth or dexterity to keep you fully engaged. chiddybang.net
