Apart from unleashing a string of great releases as Scuba, Paul Rose is also the man behind Berlin-by-way-of-Bristol imprint Hotflush. He’s a sharp operator with a proven, uncanny ear for interesting new talent. As this fine compilation from the label’s first years shows, Rose was quick to hear the potential in Joy Orbison, Mount Kimbie, Roska, Untold and other new-school producers.

In addition to nine of the label’s biggest tunes to date (and they don’t come much bigger in the dubstep universe than Joy Orbison’s lush Hyph Mngo and the scintillating James Blake remix of Mount Kimbie’s Maybes) Back 4th also has new, previously unreleased tunes from Boxcutter (the rough and tumble of LOADtime), Sepalcure, Roska and others to shine a light on where the label – and the genre itself – might well be heading.
