Something of a creative movable feast, Reykjavik's Amiina began their increasingly productive career playing classical music, but gradually drifted from there over to something that could perhaps be termed indigenous ambient/ neo-classical/folk. The music might be difficult to pin down, but it's absolutely gorgeous to listen to. While The Lighthouse Project might not be up to the quality and beauty of their 2007 debut, Kurr (a classic of whatever genre it is), this mini-album nonetheless shows distinction and class. The six tracks (two of which are live-in-studio reworkings of Kurr's Hilli and Kola) glisten with the sounds of a range of instruments that includes celesta, bowed saw, thumb-piano and glockenspiel. It's all a bit warped fairy-tale, and it's all the better for that.
