From Scullion to An Góilín: the best trad music this week

Plus the Michael Dwyer Festival, traditional music at its most intimate

SATURDAY 9

Michael Dwyer Festival

Various venues, Allihies, Beara peninsula all weekend michaeldwyer.ie
Sessions, workshops and recitals abound during this weekend festival celebrating the life and music of the late Beara peninsula tin whistle and fiddle player Michael Dwyer, who composed more than 100 tunes. Tonight sees a gala concert in the intriguing venue of Allihies Copper Mines Museum with Michael's brothers, John and Richard, plus Mary Donegan, Matt Cranitch and Jackie Daly, Manus Maguire and Emily Flack, and many others. Traditional music at its most intimate.

Scullion

Seamus Ennis Arts Centre, The Naul 8pm €20 tseac.ie
Philip King, Sonny Condell and Robbie Overson have a sound that's all their own, yet they can marry Condell's deeply evocative original compositions (Down in the City, Cooler at the Edge, Kings Til Spring Comes) with bristling covers borrowed from The National and others – with the nonchalance and brio of true pros. A real treat.
