Matt Cutler has decided it’s time to embrace the rave. There have always been hints and hues of that 1990s sound and perspective in the British producer’s work, but his seventh album as Lone does not hold back on nostalgia for an era now fondly celebrated by many.

Indeed, this drag and pull for the past played a big role in Cutler's work long before others began to express similar sentiments. On Levitate it's all about intensity and dynamic dimensions, Cutler putting subtle touches to one side in favour of a relentless parade of fizzy power and fierce, headstrong energy.

Vapour Trail and Triple Helix thump and buck and flip with wild abandon, while even a more chilled number such as Sleepwalkers does its share of twisting and turning.

A superb re-enactment of a time and a feeling many who listen to Levitate never knew.
