Track of the week: Hailee Steinfeld's Hell Nos and Headphones
We enter January with a downbeat jam about chilling out by yourself, rather than join in when you don't want to. Channelling Alessia Cara's Here, Hailee sings 'I don't judge what's on your tongue', but she'd rather listen to tunes instead. A note: the production on the verses is really neat, think soft minimal beats that enhance Hailee's tenor tones. She's yet to release an album, but we can recommend her four-track EP on Spotify.
Hero of the week is Ed Sheeran, who bought his parents a house for Christmas. Ed told the Sun: "My thing is, I bought a house about a mile away from them where we live in a countryside, and I bought a flat and a house pretty much opposite each other in London. So when I have kids, when they start getting a little bit irritating, I've got the grandparents there."
And if that wasn’t enough, he also gave them a (second-hand) car. “I bought the Mini, I learned in the Mini, I passed in the Mini then I got my parents a place in London and I thought, instead of them having to drive their car up every time they’re in the country, they can have the Mini and just use that when they are there.” What a good lad.
Zero of the week is heartbreak, Jess Glynne told the Daily Star "Just as things were taking off for me, the relationship I was in came to an end really horribly. I was having success with Clean Bandit and signing deals but it was like a whirlwind and I couldn't focus or enjoy it. Everything was happening while I was going through this awful time emotionally. It was all really unfortunate."
All’s well that ends well though. “I think it’s important to have a journey and the album is a story. I want people to hear it chronologically.”
