It isn’t often that a hotly tipped act arrives straight from nabbing a couple of Grammys to perform in a small venue in Dublin. But US folk/noir duo The Civil Wars (Joy Williams and John Paul White) are that very thing; in fact, the harmonious pair are so hot that even before this gig sold out, bigger Irish shows were announced for later in the year (Belfast’s Mandela Hall on October 28th, Dublin’s Olympia on October 29th). All of which makes The Civil Wars ones to get to, not just to watch.

Pitched somewhere between Emmylou Gram, acoustic White Stripes, Plant Krauss, and distinctly odd pop, there’s a just-can’t-put-your-finger-on-it familiarity to the no-frills, agile music that marks The Civil Wars out as one of this year’s best bets.
