Tobias Jesso Jr - Crocodile Tears (Live on Jimmy Kimmel)
(4/5)
Tobias Jesso Jr is such a pathetic loser. When his debut album was released earlier this year, even the track listing made him sound like a doormat (Can't Stop Thinking About You, How Could You Babe, I Can Hardly Breathe Without You, Can We Still Be Friends, etc). Much like the protagonist in those songs, Goon was a record that many loved at first, then discarded a week later. But this recent Kimmel appearance, backed by the band Duk, is a timely reminder of the pianist's blundering, McCartney-eque appeal.
Jess Glynne - Don't Be So Hard on Yourself
(3/5)
This single is already landed Jess Glynne her fifth UK No 1 (after Rather Be with Clean Bandit, My Love with Route 94, and Hold My Hand and Not Letting Go, both with Tinie Tempah) and her first purely as a solo artist. The video tells the uplifting story of a young man who wins the respect of his peers by joining his local high school marching band. (Funny, I thought that was how your lost the respect of your peers. Obviously, I was misinformed.)
The Dead Weather - I Feel Love (Every Million Miles)
(4/5)
Allison Mosshart looks like she's walking home from the pub after a skinfull of pints on this, the first video released from The Dead Weather's Dodge & Burn album. Allison may feel love every million miles, but I bet she feels like a chicken snackbox every time you let her out of your sight.
Chance The Rapper/ Noname Gypsy - Israel
(4.5)
The two Chicago rappers trade allusions to the Old Testament, Plato's cave and the Wayans bothers on this new self-released track. Chano's excellent debut album (Surf) dropped earlier this summer.
