Lost gems abound on this collection of women who recorded during the golden era of traditional music from 1916 to 1945, none of which have ever been released on vinyl, cassette or CD.

This is a treasure trove: full of charismatic players whose styles range from the defiantly hearty to the vivaciously playful and witty.

Rarities such as accordion player Katie McLaughlin's The Five Pound Note (originally released on the technically ground breaking Autograph Records in 1924) sidle up alongside the delicious duet lilting of The Thrush On The Hedge by two of the greatest contributors to the tradition.

A reminder of how our tradition is indebted to the foresight of American recording houses from the early 20th century.
