As reported in this newspaper during the week, a painting called Beneath St Jacques, Antwerp set a new world record for Walter Osborne last Wednesday. Including premium, the canvas fetched £345,000 at the James Adam/Bonhams auction, where William Ashford's A Mill near Lucan went for £58,000 and Sean Keating's News from the Mainland, expected to go for £14,000-£16,000, eventually sold for £44,000. A stained glass window of St Colmcille from the Harry Clarke studio made £30,000, as did James Arthur O'Connor's The Gathering Store. Paul Henry's Sailing Boat on Killary Harbour sold for £28,000 and the same artist's Killary Bay went under the hammer for £24,000. Finally, a west of Ireland scene by Nathaniel Hone went for £20,000, Walter Osborne's portrait of a fox terrier fetched £16,000 and Sean Keating's view of an Aran quayside made £14,000.
