The Booke of Days, by Stephen J

The Booke of Days, by Stephen J. Rivelle (Pan Macmillan, ISBN 0330348477), is a translation of a work by Rivelle's ancestor, Roger, Duke of Lunel. The story begins in 1096 when the call to arms was sent by the Pope for all good Christian men to follow the cross to the heathen lands. The journal is an extremely well written account of the crusade, with graphic accounts of battles, personal feelings and the constant questioning of Roger's own faith. A delight to read, with the added bonus of having terms and historical events explained for better understanding.
