Although the Arts Plan itself has seriously fallen behind schedule (at the expense to the arts sector of a tidy £12 million), there have been significant developments in Arts Council funding for music over the last few years. The most notable initiative has been the revitalisation of the Irish Chamber Orchestra in its new Limerick base. And Music Network now receives funding that puts it rather more realistically within reach of its very broad brief. In tandem with sponsorship from the ESB, this has enabled the Network, during its concert season, to put on concerts at the rate of roughly one every two days.
