THE All Electric Puppet Theatre production of The Time Wizard at the Triskel Arts Centre is exactly that - all electric! Its very young audience was captivated for what seemed to an older eye an inappropriately long time.

The book by Tony Birch is a little over-burdened by characters, too many of whom splinter a simple plot which centres on the search for the sun-diamond (imaginatively and actually a lovely invention) by the gentle if absent-minded Time Wizard; and the ugly creatures who live underground when they're not exploring space.

The puppets are presented with great style and originality, their different personalities, costumes and voices are beguiling and even the uglies are inventive.

There are lots of important musical and sound effects and the recorded voices (yes, he's here in the plural) of Jon Pertwee all perform with aplomb. Direction by Stephen Wicks and music by Royston Herbert are given extra weight by the lighting design of David Foster.
