If fiddle players had their own royalty, then Liam O’Connor would in the vanguard. This young Dublin fiddler has one ear cocked to the past and the other trained firmly on the present. His disciplined yet sinuous style has reacquainted many listeners to the delights of Dublin’s traditional music heritage. Tonight he’s joined by his sister Aoife on concertina and John Blake on guita, for an intimate session, another instalment in Gael Linn’s imaginatively programmed monthly teatime sessions.
ART
Maggy Morrissey: Quietude
Copper House Gallery, Dublin Until Mar 27

Images are made by leaving things out, and Morrissey’s photographs especially so. Her approach has been described as minimalist, which is fair enough. Her subject matter encompasses the Irish coastline and travels in Europe, including Venice. Morrissey has a quiet, patient eye and is receptive to the layers of atmosphere and time. There is lots of space in her photos, but it is never empty.
