What is it? Cold Brew Coffee Liqueur, abv 22% (€32/50cl). It is made with cold brew coffee, from Brazilian beans roasted by Wild Heart in Newtownards, Co Down, mixed with an organic grain spirit and infused with cacao nibs.
Who makes it? It is made by the Copeland Distillery in Donaghadee, Co Down, and was recently a silver award winner at the International Spirits Challenge 2023.
What’s good about it? Tal Millar, originally from Ohio and one of the distillers at The Copeland Distillery, was the lead developer on this product. He was originally a barista at the distillery’s cafe before moving into product development. A total of 12 different recipes were trialled and tested before the final one was selected. At the end of 2022, 300 bottles were released as a limited edition, and it is now in full production.
How do I use it? You can drink it chilled, over ice, or in a cocktail – an espresso martini for example. It would also be excellent in desserts such as tiramisu, affogato and coffee cake. It is less cloying than some of the market leaders in coffee liqueurs. It should be shaken before it is used, as it may contain sediment, and should be consumed within six months of opening.
